Ben Watt

luna sunday mix - by ben watt (44.50mb, 48:36mins)
[right click here to save]

summer keeps rolling on after a fashion and more stellar guest mixes keep coming. this week we've got a brilliant selection from dj, musician and buzzin fly head honcho ben watt.

already world-reknown as one half of everything but the girl, in the 90's he performed a remarkable musical volt face and begun to explore the deeper edges of house through his lazy dog club nights and compilations before setting up the buzzin' fly label in 2003.

the label has grown in stature over the last six years hosting legendary nights at the end before setting up shop with we fear silence down at the arches. this month though they are going back to basics at plastic people for two dates of sweaty friday night action on the 24th july and 22nd august.

you can get full details for the july one here. though it did practically sell out six weeks in advance so you should probably start queuing for the very limited door spaces now if you want to get in. stick the mix in your i-pod to keep you warm. its a special sunday mix of rock and disco edits, in contrast to the house and techno that typify his club sets. enjoy.

baby oliver - primetime (uptown express)
kate bush - running up that hill (ben's edit)
todd terje - glitterind
fleetwood mac - brown eyes (ben's edit)
m craft - you are the music (trevor jackson remix)
david rubato - circuit (aeroplane remix)
pet shop boys - kings cross (ben's edit)
max berlin - elle et moi (joakim remix)
bon iver - blindsided (ben's edit)
synth 1 (ben's FX)

next friday the 24th of july we return to cargo for the first time since our massive party with the field and luke abbot back in april.

we're part of a tasty line put together by eat your own ears that takes in live sets from DFA's yacht and punk funk pioneers gramme as well dj sets adventures close to home and a 3 hour headline set from ourselves.

as its a friday and its cargo it is of course free so get down early to enjoy the music and avoid the queues.

full details here.

and don't forget the super furry animal warehouse party this saturday.

luke vibert bang FACE mix

BANG FACE MIX - by luke vibert (41.60mb, 30:10mins)
[right click here to save]

our guest mix cup hath runneth over recently and the overflow continues this week with a stellar mix from the inimitable luke vibert. the man of many names (including wagon christ, plug, kerrier district and, well, luke vibert) from the fair land of cornwall has been making this electronic music making lark look easy in host of sub genres for the best part of two decades and yet still remains a sprightly young pup.

his releases on rephlex, ninja tune, warp and astralwerks are pretty much stalwarts in any allez-allez set so we're pretty stoked to have him guest at our online club especially with such an outstanding mix..

the reason luke put together this beuaty is to whip the nation into a state of frenzy before BANG FEST explodes on the august bank holiday weekend. the festival is the latest event from the bang face phenomenon that started back in 2003 and has grown at a rate beyond exponential - from the early days of public life, through stints at medicine bar and electrowerkz, onto pontins cambersands and now alighting at the jacobean somerleyton estate.

aimed at revellers who like to rave on the dark side of the bassline, bang face popularity stems from the irreverant lack of ego present wherever they set up shop. their events have seen pool parties, giant inflatables and an official guinness world record for the world’s largest glow stick (2.2 metres since you ask).

there also the small matter of the music which also keep bodies coming in their droves. over the 24 hours of bang fest you can catch speed dealer moms, ragga twins, sl2, dj pinch, bass clef, king cannibal, mr vibert, saint acid & the bang face hard crew and many many more.

it all takes place on the 29th-30th august and tickets are a bloody steal at £45. there is even camping for those who need to pit stop throughout the night and day. get all the info here: www.bangfaceweekender.com.

rone

wanted rabbit mix - by rone (80.80mb, 58:51mins)
[right click here to save]

rone, young parisian erwan castex, first made our ears prick up back in early 2008 with the release of his 'bora' ep on infine. beautiful techno that hits that melanconic vein that we fall for again and again it made last years dull summer a little brighter.

this year he came back with a long player that stetches that same feeling out over a beautiful flowing forty or so minutes. spanish breakfast came out earlier this year and has picked up good notice from resident advisor and idj to name a couple and rightly so. you can sample the delights of the title track on this video made by erwan's good friend, short film director vladimir mavounia-kouka. rone has now returned with a new ep, 'la dame blanche', thats aims more directly for the dancefloor that can be found here.

and now enjoy this lovely mix where for an hour rone "chases for the white rabbit crossing the ways of strange indie animals, electro zombies, lunar dogs… and lords of the dancefloors." indeed.
